Sky Burial

The Sky Burial is an ancient practice which predates the arrival of Buddhism in Tibet. The deceased are ritually butchered and the vultures are invited to feed on the remains. Later the bones are crushed and mixed with tsampa and any remaining flesh, possibly brains. Everything must go to complete the process. Anything left over will be burnt in a separate ritual. It can be seen as a final act of generosity on behalf of the deceased.
